Scheels Sporting Goods is Coming to Tulsa

A new sporting goods store is coming to Tulsa!

SCHEELS, a sporting goods store currently has 30 locations and headquartered in Fargo, North Dakota, will soon set up shop in Woodland Hills Mall. Right now, the building is occupied by an Overstock Furniture and Mattress furniture store. Partner Tulsa has been working with Simon Property Group, which owns the mall, to bring the agreement to fruition.

“Thanks to the cooperative efforts of City Council, the Mayor’s Office, the Partner Tulsa team, Scheels, and Simon Property Group, this major investment at Woodland Hills Mall will re-energize the heart of District 7 along the E. 71st and S. Memorial Dr. Corridor,” Councilor Decter Wright said.

The $132 million investment will bring with it about 400 new jobs and give a major boost to the economic activity in the community.

“Scheels, which counts aquariums, arcade games and an indoor Ferris wheel among its attractions, intends to raze the mall’s former Sears location and construct a 250,000-square-foot store that could open by the fall of 2024,” Councilor Decter Wright said.

This statement released by CEO Steve M. Scheel stated the following:

“SCHEELS is excited to announce the company is strongly considering Tulsa, Oklahoma for its next All Sports store location. SCHEELS has been partnering with the City of Tulsa on plans, and looks forward to the city’s approval process this week so project details can be finalized. The $130 million project will bring the first SCHEELS to Oklahoma and is scheduled to open in the fall of 2024 if approved. Tulsa will be the employee-owned company’s 34th location, and will create more than 400 jobs for the community.”
